Max Verstappen became the World Champion for the second time in the Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He dominantly took the lead position from the start and maintained the same throughout.
The two-time world champion won his 15th Grand Prix of the season. He started from the pole position and only took one pitstop.
In an interview after the race, Max said “Incredible to win again here, 15th win of the season is unbelievable,” Verstappen said. “It’s been really enjoyable to work with the whole team and to be able to achieve something like this year.”
Taking it to his Instagram account in the caption of his post about the race and the win Max writes, “15, an amazing way to end an incredible season for us. All in all, the whole season has been unbelievable and it’s been very enjoyable with the team. Thank you so much to everyone for your hard work. Unfortunately, this has been also the season in which we lost Dietrich, but I’m very grateful we could make it a special one. Now it is time to recharge our batteries, so we can give it our all again next season!”
This very thoughtful and gracious gesture has been noted and applauded by many of Verstappen’s fans and fellow racers.
The championship had a really cut-throat race. Sergio Perez stayed in the second position for quite a long time right behind Verstappen, but he did two pitstops while Charles Leclerc did only one. Despite Perez closing in on Leclerc in the final phase of the race, it was Ferrari driver takes the second position.
After the win, Max is full of praise for the Red bull racing team as he says it was enjoyable with them.
Ahead of the race, Sebastian Vettel was at the center of attention as the four-time world champion concluded his formula 1 career impressively along with Daniel Riccardo, Mick Schumacher, and Nicholas Latifi as they shall not return to the grid next year.
Leclerc and Ferrari seemed to challenge Verstappen well at the start of the season but the Red bull team managed to improve their car performance while Ferrari’s race strategy held them back due to errors on track by Leclerc.
