It was found that an 82-year-old woman who was pronounced dead was later found alive at a nursing home on Long Island in New York after 3 hours at a funeral home as per spurring investigations by police and health officials.
It was on Saturday that she was pronounced dead at the Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson at 11:15 a.m., said the police of Suffolk County. She was found breathing at 2:09 p.m. after being taken to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in the nearby Miller Palace at 1:30 p.m. as per police.
After being found alive and despite not being identified by authorities the woman was taken to the hospital after she was found alive. Further, there’s not a complete update about her condition and no details have been provided by the police about the entire incident.
The New York State Department of Health is investigating the case and the department cannot comment as the probe is still underway said the Suffolk County Police. It has also been referred to the attorney general’s office.
“This is an awful situation that caused unnecessary trauma for the impacted resident and her loved ones,” as per the attorney general’s statement in an email, adding that the office is reviewing the incident.
In a statement to CNN affiliate WABC, the funeral home said: “Out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of the families we are honored to serve, we are not in a position to comment further on this matter.”
We are trying to get comments either from the police department, the Department of Health in New York, or from the nursing center and funeral home. Another similar incidence was also reported by officials in Iowa where a 66-year-old woman was found breathing inside a body bad in December after being declared dead.
