Law Banning Dogs From Leaning Out of Running Car Windows Protested by Floridians

  • New law introduced by Lauren bans dogs from leaning out of the windows of cars.
  • Several other laws have also been implemented which are strictly concerned with animal safety and protection.

A law banning people from driving with dog heads leaning out of windows is facing major backlash soon after it was introduced. The law is now being reconsidered by the sponsor and supposedly will be removed or changed based on animal welfare legislation.

A veterinarian who treats dog injuries of eyes, ears, and noses from rocks and debris and an animal advocate first presented the idea to Book whose district lies to the south of Interstate 595 and west of Florida’s Turnpike, the vets also said that the animals end up on the windshield and can get injured, explained Van Susteren.

The Floridians don’t want it and Lauren had word with the public who strongly feel about this says Claire VanSusteren spokeswoman from Senate Democratic. It has also decided to work on issues like declawing the cats, ending animal tests of cosmetic products, and animal abuse registry, and prohibiting tethering of dogs and cats.

Despite all this, the only provision which drew maximum attention after its introduction was the law banning dogs from leaning out of windows in running cars to be illegal since its introduction on Feb 17.

Lauren made it illegal by saying “to allow a dog to extend its head or any other body part outside a vehicle window while the person is operating the vehicle on a public roadway” in the legislation proposed.

“Our family has three dogs — two of which are 150 pounds each and love sticking their heads out the window — so I welcome and appreciate all public comment on this issue, which is only one piece of a complete proposed overhaul of the state’s animal welfare system as brought to me by veterinarians and advocates,” Book said Wednesday in a written statement.

It has also been said that the provision will be limited to highway driving and that it can be removed as the spokeswoman said, “We can easily amend this piece out of the bill while protecting the intent of the animal welfare community and vets who proposed the policy because of unintended injuries they’ve treated — and we will,” Book said. It can be said that the provision will not stay in legislation in its current form.

Lauren Book described her darkest time in life when she was abused sexually and emotionally as a teen and was gang raped as a teen. She is therefore a dog lover and has pets named Parks, Grux and Roary while Canine was the one who helped her recover back then.

“There have been folks who are supportive, and there are folks who obviously are not, who feel that it’s not a good policy for our state.” Said VanSusteren that there are supporters one of which has seen a dog’s paw stepping on a window button which could have led to him choking but was thankfully rescued from the tragedy.

Book insisted and intends on finding safer ways for the pets such as ‘Doggles’ which are eye protectors for dogs thus keeping them safe.

The other elements of the bill also included a few other provisions like someone personally looking after the peeping dog by keeping them in front of their eyes or such other exemptions which include animal safety while the veterinarian is treating or testing or when the dog is being groomed or used for hunting season legally.

The safety restrictions also include the safety of dogs from harmful chemical cosmetics. It strictly states that “a cosmetic developed or manufactured using cosmetic animal testing conducted or contracted by the manufacturer or any supplier.”

The law further talks about rabbits banning them from sale at pet stores and flea markets before Easter i.e. in March and April as they are abandoned later at the shelters as people get tired of taking care of them later. The law has thus banned selling them before the festivals thus saving the rabbits from being left after people get tired of taking care of them.

The law has even considered creating an animal registry to help the animals that are being abused and for similar purposes. The Department of Law Enforcement of the state will mention the people who are convicted of animal abuse offenses on their website in form of a registry.

It further states that the person so registered shall remain in the registry for 3 years for the first conviction and 10 years for the second or subsequent misdemeanor or felony animal abuse. It will also lead to them prohibiting from owning or possessing any animal their after.

This law even though not so appealing to Floridians will definitely help Senate Majority leader Lauren Book amongst all the dogfights with Former Mayor Barbara Sharief. Lauren has faced major backlash from the previous times about her incurring something.
