Two counts of murder and two counts of having a weapon while committing a violent crime each resulted in his conviction on all four counts.

The court will reconvene on Friday at 9:30 a.m. local time for sentence, according to Judge Clifton Newman. Alex Murdaugh risks life in jail if convicted of murder.

During the verdict reading, Alex Murdaugh, 54, was emotionless. He was handcuffed and silently removed from the courtroom.

"No one in society is above the law," South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson told reporters outside the courthouse after the judgment.

"It doesn't matter how prominent you are — if you do wrong, breach the law, kill, then justice will be served in South Carolina," said lead prosecutor Creighton Waters.

Jurors visited the family's estate to view the crime scene, where Margaret and Paul Murdaugh were found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in June 2021.

More than a year after the discovery, Alex Murdaugh, who had phoned 911 to report it, was accused of killing them.

Authorities believe Alex Murdaugh, who hails from a family of famous lawyers in the area, murdered his wife and kid to generate sympathy.

Meanwhile, the defense has depicted him as a loving husband and father, claiming that cops dismissed the idea that they may have been slain by anybody else.

During his testimony, Alex Murdaugh blamed his lying to investigators on his painkiller addiction, which he said created "paranoid thinking."
