American Idol is set for its latest season to officially go live soon. It is already trending with contestants’ stories getting long-time viewers. Amongst all one person’s story particularly touched judge Luke Bryan and made him emotional.
In the premiere episode of the show, lam Tongi auditioned for the Hollywood rounds. The 18-year-old aspiring singer shared about his dad Rodney who died recently. He spoke about their bond in front of Luke, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie after telling them that he still hears the voice of his father harmonizing with the songs that he signs. He emotionally touched the judges and performed the rendition of “Monsters” by James Blunt.
He just emotionally overwhelmed everyone and there were no dry eyes left in the room. Luke also opened up about his nephew who lost his dad and is now living with him. He consoled lam by saying that he feels so sad after seeing him miss his dad and listening to the heartbreaking story about him.
He continued: “Gosh, man, you’ve just got a great voice… You just did everything perfectly, and I love you and I just want to see you have fun in this whole thing. It’s just awesome what you just did.”
Soon after this fans couldn’t help appreciating lam on social media and supporting him with kind words about his loss. They also shared how much they could relate to his story. One of the fans took it to social media and wrote saying that he watched and cried over this more than ten times and felt his voice to be beautiful. Another one wrote to YouTube saying that it is an amazing way to tribute to your dad and that he lay in bed crying ugly the whole time. He appreciated the singer for his beautiful voice and said that he could listen to it all day. Another fan also wrote, “This is the only song that’s ever made me cry. I love my dad so much and I couldn’t imagine losing him. Much love to anyone who has. You can be a part [sic] of my family forever,” a different fan agreed.
Luke also further shared about his sister Kelly who died when she was at home and whom he brought to his family later and to his home. He also shared about losing his brother Chris in a car accident in 1996.
All this has already secured a special place for lam in the eyes of judges and audiences even before the show starts. It is now to be seen how well lam progresses in the upcoming episodes!
