Twitter Implements DM Limits to Promote Twitter Blue Subscriptions

In a bid to promote Twitter Blue subscriptions, Twitter has announced that it will be enforcing daily limits on the number of direct messages users can send, with the aim of reducing spam in direct messages. The company shared this update on Friday via a tweet from Twitter Support, urging users to “subscribe today” to access more messaging capabilities.

While some users, including those with Twitter Blue subscriptions, have criticized this move, others have defended it as a “smart idea” and played down concerns about users shifting to rival platforms like Meta’s Threads app.

Twitter’s move comes amidst the platform’s struggles with ad revenue, leading to significant debt. Twitter owner Elon Musk acknowledged the challenge of negative cash flow due to a substantial drop in advertising revenue, coupled with a heavy debt load. He emphasized the need to achieve positive cash flow before considering other luxuries.

As Twitter continues to refine its strategies, the implementation of DM limits is part of its efforts to address spam and enhance user experience on the platform. The Twitter Blue subscription offers users additional messaging features, creating new opportunities for engagement while aiming to strike a balance between revenue generation and user satisfaction.
