Perry Central High School Students Launch ’98 News’ TV Show

NEW AUGUSTA, Miss. (WDAM) – Perry Central High School is set to embark on an exciting educational journey as students take the helm of their own daily news show called “98 News.”

This student-produced show will cover a wide range of topics, delving into all things Perry County, including athletics, music, and academics.

Principal Joshua Yeager shared that the initiative offers students a chance to earn class credits while honing their technical and creative skills, preparing them for the real world.

He expressed, “It’s gonna help with narrative writing… editing features. With our technology students, with the equipment we have ordered, they’re gonna be able to learn top-notch mechanics of technological engineering.”

The show’s set was generously donated by WDAM 7, fostering a valuable partnership to kickstart the broadcast program.

PCHS senior Ariyanna Bolton exuded enthusiasm, looking forward to utilizing her personality as a means of connecting with others. She emphasized, “I’m very informative, so I think I’ll bring a lot of information… And I also think I’ll bring a lot of enthusiasm and school spirit with the broadcasting.”

The debut of “98 News” is scheduled for the week of Aug. 14, with students commencing their equipment training next week.

This exciting venture marks a significant step forward in empowering students to engage in media production, offering valuable skills and experiences as they share stories about their school and community.
