J. Cole Regrets Diss Track Aimed at Kendrick Lamar

J. Cole publicly apologized for a diss track targeting fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar. The track, titled “7 Minute Drill,” appears on Cole’s new album “Might Delete Later.”

In a video circulating online, Cole addresses the crowd at Dreamville Festival just two days after the album’s release. He acknowledges his pride in the album except for “one part,” referring to the Lamar diss track. Cole expresses regret, calling it a “lame” decision and admitting to feeling remorseful in the past two days.

The lyrics of “7 Minute Drill” criticize Lamar’s recent work, suggesting a decline in quality. This adds fuel to their ongoing feud, which escalated last October when Cole and Drake collaborated on “First Person Shooter,” implying they were the top rappers alongside Lamar.

Lamar responded indirectly in March through a guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” rejecting the “big three” notion and asserting his dominance. This echoes his 2013 verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” where he aimed to showcase his competitive spirit, not necessarily diss other rappers.

Seeking to move forward, Cole apologizes to the cheering crowd at Dreamville, acknowledging Lamar’s greatness. Both rappers have enjoyed successful careers, winning Grammys and Lamar receiving a Pulitzer Prize for music.
