Ryan Reynolds Stays Mum on Baby Name, Jokes About Waiting on Taylor Swift

During a visit to TODAY’s Studio 1A on May 13th, actor Ryan Reynolds skillfully sidestepped questions about the name of his fourth child, born in 2023 to wife Blake Lively. The couple has yet to publicly reveal the baby’s name or gender, sparking fan theories and playful prodding from the media.

Savannah Guthrie, co-host of TODAY, couldn’t resist bringing up the topic on the minds of many fans, particularly those known as “Swifties,” devoted followers of singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Swift is a close friend of Lively’s, and fans have speculated she might have subtly revealed the baby’s name in her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

With a touch of humor, Reynolds deflected the question, turning the tables on Swift. “We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child’s name will be,” he said jokingly. He playfully prodded Swift, known for her cryptic lyrics and hidden messages in her music, to take the initiative. “I mean, what are we doing here? And lazy’s not a word I’d attach to Taylor,” he added.

This isn’t the first time Swift has woven the names of Reynolds and Lively’s daughters into her music. The names of their three older daughters, James, Inez, and Betty, all found their way into the song “Betty” on her 2020 album “Folklore.” James’ name also appeared in “Gorgeous” from Swift’s 2017 album “Reputation.” In 2022, after Lively announced her pregnancy, fans buzzed with excitement again, believing they had spotted a clue in Swift’s song “You’re on Your Own, Kid.” The song features the name Daisy Mae/May, leading some to speculate it might be the new baby’s name.

While Reynolds remained tight-lipped during the interview, his playful response adds fuel to the fire of fan theories. With Swift’s reputation for dropping Easter eggs in her music, it’s certainly possible the wait for the baby’s name might be playfully soundtracked by another Swift song. But for now, the couple seems content to keep the mystery alive.
