Despite a valiant effort, the Edmonton Oilers fell one game short of Stanley Cup glory, dropping Game 7 to the Florida Panthers 2-1. However, superstar Connor McDavid emerged as a shining light, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy for his incredible playoff performance.
Following the emotional loss, Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl heaped praise on McDavid, calling him “the greatest player to ever play” in the NHL. Draisaitl specifically lauded McDavid’s work ethic and impact on the franchise’s turnaround.
McDavid’s performance throughout the playoffs was historic. He became only the second player in NHL history, and the first non-goalie on a losing team, to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. His 42 points (8 goals, 34 assists) rank fourth all-time for a single postseason.
Draisaitl acknowledged McDavid’s disappointment at not winning the Stanley Cup, but emphasized the player’s unwavering dedication to achieving that goal.
Despite a slow start to the Finals with no points in Game 1, McDavid exploded for a record-setting four-point performances in both Games 4 and 5, single-handedly pulling the Oilers back into contention.

McDavid’s consistency throughout the season was remarkable, with only one stretch without a point in consecutive games.
