Ariana Grande’s latest album, “Eternal Sunshine,” has soared to the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart, marking her sixth No. 1 album. In the week ending March 14th, the album sold an impressive 227,000 equivalent album units, the highest sales figure for any album this year.
This achievement adds to Grande’s already impressive list of chart-topping albums, including “Positions,” “Thank U, Next,” “Sweetener,” “My Everything,” and “Yours Truly.”
“Eternal Sunshine” boasts the biggest opening week of 2024, surpassing the previous record held by “Vultures 1” by Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Ty Dolla $ign. The album’s success is attributed to a combination of factors, including:
- Strong streaming numbers: Nearly 200 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs contributed significantly to its sales figures.
- High album sales: “Eternal Sunshine” was the best-selling album of the week, with physical formats like vinyl and CDs driving sales. The vinyl edition, offered in various colors and limited-edition versions, achieved Grande’s highest vinyl sales ever.
- Strategic marketing: Grande’s announcement of the album in January, followed by appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and the Academy Awards, helped build anticipation for the release.

The rest of the Billboard 200 chart saw some movement, with Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” holding onto the No. 2 spot, while albums by Noah Kahan, Ye & Ty Dolla $ign, and SZA all slipped down the rankings. Former chart-toppers from artists like Zach Bryan, Drake, Taylor Swift (with two albums), and Morgan Wallen again rounded out the top 10.
