25 – years old, American singer and songwriter, Chappell Roan is a self described thrift store pop star. Chappell Roan’s ‘Naked In North America’ tour was a killer kiki as the final stop.
Roan is known for her designer costumes and makeup looks. An ardent lover of costumes and makeup, designated a theme for each stop of her tour. She also posted some outfit inspiration and makeup tutorials on her social media page. All of her tour attendees whole heartedly participated. The venue was full of femme people dressed in what could be described as a greatest fantasy. The singer curated a Pink – and – Silver rodeo experience for queer audiences on the ‘Naked In North America’ tour.
The three queens: Missile Aneous, Aiana Shaw and La Kelly Ru started the night with energetic and dazzling performances.
By the time the local artists finished, Roan opened the show with a voicemail intro: “Hi, it’s Chappell, I know you just landed/ And I know you’re probably busy but/ I would love to see you so/ call me when you can”, from her hit song ‘Naked in Manhattan’.
Roan On The Stage –
Roan ran on the stage and opened the show. After her first song, she followed her 2020 single ‘Love Me Anyway’ before disappearing of the stage. Her fans were bewildered by her sudden exit and suddenly the clips from ‘Hannah Montana’ began to play and Roan appeared again. Members of the front row started to scream after seeing at Roan’s new costume.
Roan’s choreography were conveying the excitement effortlessly. Her song’s emphasis on embracing love and queer culture. She also sang her 2022 hit ‘Femininomenon’ which examines the idea of chasing the love you deserve and not settle for “crying at the nail salon”.
Unreleased Song’s –
Roan also shared some of her unreleased song’s: ‘Coffee’, which examines the nostalgia of getting coffee with a romantic partner, and the another one was ‘After Midnight’ and the last one was “Bitter” which honors the sad angsty kid, which she was in high school.
When introducing ‘Bitter’ Roan said, “It’s a very different version of yourself when you’re in high school. I look back and I was so sad and it was so dark. Hopefully we are moving out of that space of depression and hatred for ourselves”. “You have to honour your younger self, even if you do not like them”, Roan said to the crowd.
Roan spoke in gratitude for her tour openers, she said, “This is the 20th show and the final show of the tour and in every city, we’ve sourced three local drag performers from that city”. “When you tip your drag queens if you didn’t get a chance, we’ve got a jar at the merch table – you are directly supporting your local drag community. It’s very important right now, and it always has been”, Roan said.
After that she performed “My Kink Is Karma”. She closed out the set with an encore performance of “Pinky Pony Club” that every single had been waiting to hear. “God, what have you done/ You’re a Pinky Pony Girl” Roan delivered the lyrics and her LGBTQ+ fans felt heaven on the tour. This song has been an anthem for LGBTQIA+ people in the past years.
After the song, Roan suddenly threw her mic and ended an extremely successful tour. Her stage presence and connection with audience left everyone in amaze. “She gives it her all and she really cares about her fans”, said Mado Dolce, her fan.
