The 2024 Juno Awards, Canada’s prestigious music awards, highlighted the fight for LGBTQ2+ rights alongside celebrating the year’s best music.
Actor Elliot Page, known for their role in “The Umbrella Academy,” presented an award while urging action against the rollback of LGBTQ2+ rights. Page, who is transgender and non-binary, praised the Tegan and Sara Foundation’s work supporting LGBTQ2+ youth.
Tegan and Sara Quin, Canadian pop stars, used their platform to condemn the province of Alberta’s proposed restrictions on transgender healthcare.
Charlotte Cardin dominated the awards, winning Album of the Year for “99 Nights” after a leading six nominations. Breakout Artist of the Year went to Nicholas Durocher (Talk), while veteran artist Anne Murray presented the Group of the Year award to The Beaches.

Music fans voted Punjabi music star Karan Aujla for the Juno Fan Choice award. Maestro Fresh-Wes, a hip hop pioneer with a five-decade career, was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Saturday night’s pre-televised awards saw Tate McRae win Artist and Single of the Year for “Greedy.” Tobi and Aysanabee also earned multiple awards in rap and songwriting categories.
