Singer Kelly Clarkson has filed a new legal motion against her former manager and ex-spouse, Brandon Blackstock. This action follows Blackstock’s appeal of a California Labor Commission ruling in November 2023.
Clarkson Awarded $2.6 Million
The commission’s decision determined that Blackstock, who wasn’t licensed as a talent agent, unlawfully secured deals for Clarkson, including her role on “The Voice”. This resulted in a $2.6 million award to Clarkson.
Blackstock Appeals, Clarkson Responds
Blackstock contested the commission’s ruling, seeking a full trial in Los Angeles. In response, Clarkson filed a cross-complaint aiming to uphold the commission’s decision and potentially increase the awarded amount.

Clarkson Claims Broader Wrongdoing
Clarkson alleges that Blackstock’s management company, Starstruck Entertainment (owned by Blackstock’s father), violated California’s Talent Agencies Act throughout their working relationship, which began in 2007. She argues that all agreements related to management are void and seeks the return of any fees paid to Starstruck. Additionally, she requests a financial review to determine if she’s owed more than the initial $2.6 million.
Blackstock’s Defense
Blackstock’s lawyer maintains that Clarkson’s claims are unjust, considering the financial contributions made towards their family during the marriage.
