Back in 1993, Bassett captivated audiences with her mesmerizing performance as Tina Turner in the film What’s Love Got to Do with It, earning her a best actress nomination. Fast forward to this year, she received a nomination for best supporting actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
In the Black Panther films, Bassett brought to life the character of Queen Ramonda, leaving an indelible mark on the franchise. Her impressive filmography also includes notable appearances in acclaimed works such as Boyz N the Hood, Malcolm X, Music of the Heart, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
Joining Bassett as recipients of honorary Oscars are two other legends of the entertainment industry. Comedy icon Mel Brooks, at the age of 96, will be honored for his immeasurable contributions.

Furthermore, Michelle Satter of the Sundance Institute will be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Her unwavering dedication to nurturing the careers of filmmakers from underrepresented communities has made a profound impact.
