Acclaimed actress Cate Blanchett is set to star in a new sci-fi comedy titled “Alpha Gang” by the Zellner Brothers, known for their quirky films like “Sasquatch Sunset.”
Blanchett will play Alpha One, the leader of a group of alien invaders disguised as a tough 1950s biker gang. Their mission: conquer Earth. However, their plan goes awry when they contract a strange human affliction – emotions.
The Zellner Brothers will write, direct, and produce the film alongside Blanchett and her production company Dirty Films. Filming is expected to begin this fall.
“We’re constantly impressed by the Zellner Brothers’ unique vision,” Blanchett said in a joint statement. “Alpha Gang is a hilarious and thought-provoking look at humanity through the lens of these alien invaders.”

The film will be launched for international sales at the Cannes market next week by MK2 Films, the company behind last year’s Palme d’Or winner “Anatomy of a Fall.” CAA Media Finance will handle North American sales.
“We’re excited to collaborate with the Zellner Brothers,” said MK2 managing director Fionnuala Jamison. “Alpha Gang combines classic rebellion with a sci-fi twist, and with Cate Blanchett leading the cast, we expect a lot of interest.”
The Zellner Brothers’ previous film, “Sasquatch Sunset,” a silent comedy about a Bigfoot family, was a hit at Sundance and is currently playing in theaters.
