Drew Barrymore has shed the “shame” she once associated with divorce. The actress, 49, has been married and divorced three times.

In a candid discussion on her talk show, Barrymore opened up about her marriages to Jeremy Thomas (1994-1995), Tom Green (2001-2002), and Will Kopelman (2012-2016), with whom she shares two daughters.

Inspired by Jennifer Lopez’s recent music video referencing multiple marriages, Barrymore acknowledged feeling past “shame” and spoke of her newfound liberation. She stated her decision to move on from marriages that weren’t working was about valuing “our precious commodity on this planet, which is only our time.”

Barrymore now views divorce as a way to improve one’s life, rather than a source of shame. She concluded by praising Lopez for promoting empowerment over societal stigma surrounding divorce.

This perspective shift comes after previously describing divorce as a “death of a dream” and admitting her efforts to salvage her marriage to Will Kopelman.
