Amidst the ongoing Hollywood strikes, actor Billy Porter is compelled to list his residence for sale, attributing financial hardships to the industry turmoil.
In an interview published last week by the Evening Standard, Porter revealed, “Due to the strike, I must sell my home. The timeline for resuming work remains uncertain.”
Porter, renowned for roles in “Pose” and “Cinderella,” underscored a common misconception about actors’ finances. Contrary to assumptions, they lack the means to weather the strike without significant lifestyle adjustments. Porter disclosed that he’s already felt the impact.
One concern shared by both the Screen Actors Guild and the Writers Guild of America is the dwindling residuals income due to streaming. Porter emphasized the issue, highlighting the opacity surrounding streaming viewership figures.

During the strike, Porter ventured to England and worked on an album titled “The Black Mona Lisa.”
Since early May, Hollywood writers have engaged in strike action, which was joined by actors in mid-July. Their collective negotiation attempts with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, representing major studios, have faltered. This marks the first simultaneous strike by both groups since 1960.
