Actor and singer Jamie Foxx, who was hospitalized last year for an undisclosed medical condition, is finally ready to share details about the experience.

Foxx, 56, revealed his plans during a speech at the African American Film Critic’s Association Special Achievement Awards luncheon on Sunday. He won the organization’s Producers Award and used the opportunity to address the public’s curiosity about his health scare.

“Everyone wants to know what happened,” Foxx said, according to Variety. “I’m going to tell you, but I’ll do it in my own way, in a stand-up comedy show.”

The show, titled “What Had Happened Was,” will feature Foxx’s signature humor and address the rumors and speculation surrounding his hospitalization. He jokingly addressed one such rumor, saying, “I dove out of a car to save a Black woman’s purse. That wasn’t me, that was a clone!”

Foxx gave a brief update on his recovery in July 2023 through an emotional video message. He expressed his gratitude for the support he received and explained his decision to stay out of the public eye during his recovery.

“I went through something I never thought I would,” he said in the video. “I didn’t want you to see me with tubes and wires, unsure if I would make it.”

Foxx’s daughter, Corinne, had announced his hospitalization in April 2023 while he was filming in Atlanta. He has not revealed the specific nature of his illness.

Back in action, Foxx has rejoined the cast of the film “Back in Action” and is set to co-host the game show “Beat Shazam” with his daughter.

Foxx, visibly emotional during his speech, emphasized his appreciation for the support he received during his difficult time. “I’m so thankful,” he said. “Cherish life.”
