Jennifer Garner Speaks About her Mental Health Journey After her First Divorce

  • She says she got inspired by her character Alia and self-reflected on herself.

Jennifer Garner talks about her mental struggles after her first divorce. She married Ben Affleck after going through heartache with Scott Foley. She was married to Scott in her 20s after they met in the television drama ‘Felicity’. They had been in a relationship for a long time before finally being married in 2000.

Jennifer 50, was born in Houston and made her screen debut in the television adaption of the romance novel ‘Zoya’ in 1995. Having a dynamic career, she has always been in the eyes of audiences and has never failed to surprise them. Despite of this her personal life has also been controversial making headlines first with Scott and then with Ben Affleck who married Jennifer Lopez after getting divorced from Jennifer Garner in 2018.

Scott and Jennifer were married for 3 years and then finally separated in 2003. He later commented about their divorce clarifying that there was no foul play or scandal and that they grew apart.

“Jennifer became a huge celebrity. She became a huge star, and she deserved everything she got. There was no other relationship, there was no infidelity, nothing. People get divorced, you know? Through no one’s fault and everyone’s fault,” Foley once said in an interview with TV Guide.

Garner who also acknowledge the statement to be true also didn’t leave it on that note, rather clarifying further she said that even though it was true the arguments had been the cause of their divorce and that this led to her having to grow up because of them. Adding further she said she couldn’t work things out and didn’t have a voice back then. The loss was huge that something like that failed.

This is why she chose to go to a therapist to speak and seek help. She further said, “I knew that this was either an opportunity for growth or I would sink. It’s easy when you’re hurt and angry to just say, ‘Oh, it’s them.’ But I had to come into my own. I thought, ‘Why did this relationship not work? What part of the failure is my responsibility?’ So, I went to work on it. I started therapy,” she said.

She realized that she had to become like her character Alia after the divorce.

After the divorce, she went through marital troubles which led to her self-reflecting. She also became self-aware and all this made her realize that she was becoming like one of her most iconic characters Alia.

She also explained that she didn’t realize her issues and that she had professional confidence but lacked personal confidence concerning her relationships with everyone. She also said that she wanted to be like her character Alia who was confident and inspiring to her in several ways. She also said that she knew how to be nice and take care of people but she couldn’t ask for what she needed.
