Actress Zooey Deschanel is set to star in a new movie about a former couple who reunite for an unusual reason: their shared dog’s post-breakup depression.
The film, directed by Jessica Swale for Amazon MGM Studios, follows the estranged pair as they decide to put their awkwardness aside and take their furry friend on a sunny Florida vacation to cheer him up.
The screenplay is written by Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark, with Matt Beer and Roma Downey producing.
Deschanel, known for her role as Jess Day in the sitcom “New Girl” (2011-2018), recently expressed her reservations about a reunion episode despite missing her co-stars.
She prioritizes revisiting the friendships formed on set, but believes more time is needed before revisiting the show itself.

In a separate anecdote, Deschanel described her disbelief when music legend Prince requested to appear on “New Girl” in 2014. They even performed a duet for the episode.
Initially convinced it was a prank, Deschanel confirmed Prince’s involvement and recorded the song. The experience, she says, was a surreal and unforgettable moment.
