Michael Lerner Passed Away at 81

Michael Lerner American actor, nominated for Academy Awards known as Oscar for Best Supporting Actor died at the age of 81. The Actor is known for his role as Jack Lipnic in Barton Fink. 

Michael Lerner has entertained the audience throughout the years through films and television. Born on June 22, 1941, Michael is a Romanian-Jewish. He was raised in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and Salon Ohio. His father who thought himself to be an antique dealer was actually a junk dealer as per Michael.

Sam Lerner’s Emotional Message for his Late Uncle

The news of his death was confirmed by Sam Lerner his nephew and actor through Instagram. The nephew wrote an emotional message on the Instagram post which read,

“It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was, and how influential he was to me. His stories always inspired me and made me fall in love with acting. He was the coolest, most confident, most talented guy, and the fact that he was my blood will always make me feel special. Everyone that knows him knows how insane he was— in the best way. I’m so lucky I got to spend so much time with him, and we’re all lucky we can continue to watch his work for the rest of the time. RIP Michael, enjoy your unlimited Cuban cigars, comfy chairs, and endless movie marathon”.

He did not discuss any further information about the death of Lerner through the message.

Michael Lerner’s Career

The actor studied drama at Brooklyn College and earned a Fulbright scholarship. Lerner also studied in London for two years and worked as an actor through the 1970s and 80s.

Later as he got nominated for Oscar in 1992 for “Barton Fink” he achieved a higher profile. He earned an Academy Award nomination for Jack Lipnick and Bellwether for his cutthroat and uproarious tone in the film.

Started as a quiz kid on a television program at the age of 13. In the last decade, he appeared in the West End production Up for Grabs with Madonna in 2010. He was also part of the Marvel Comics film X-Men: Days of Future Past where he portrayed Senator Brickman.

Lerner appeared as Sidney Green in the Broadway musical “Funny Girl”  season 4 and again in season 5. Apart from the later journey the veteran actor contributed a lot to the industry and was best know for his roles in Eight Men Out (1988), Amos & Andrew (1993), No Escape (1994), Mayor Elbert in Godzilla (1998) and so on.
