On May 10, 2023, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and twitter, Elon Musk announces Twitter’s upcoming features.
In his tweet, he stated, “Just spoke with @jack. Twitter will be allowing voice and video calls soon, and it will also have end-to-end encrypted DMs. This will be a game-changer for the platform!”
Elon Musk announcement about Twitter’s upcoming features quickly gained attention from Twitter users and the media. Many people expressed excitement about the new features, while others raised concerns about privacy and security.

Twitter’s Current Features and Limitations

Twitter is a social media platform that allows users to share short messages called “tweets.” It also allows users to send and receive direct messages (DMs) to other users. However, Twitter currently does not allow users to make voice or video calls within the app, unlike other social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

Additionally, while Twitter’s DMs are private, they are not currently encrypted end-to-end. This means that Twitter can access the content of DMs if it chooses to do so, which has raised concerns about privacy and security.

The Benefits of Call and Encrypted DM Features

The addition of call and encrypted DM features to Twitter could have several benefits for users. Firstly, the ability to make voice and video calls within the app could make it easier for users to communicate with each other, particularly for long-distance or international conversations.

It could also allow for more spontaneous and personal interactions, similar to those that occur in real life.Secondly, the introduction of end-to-end encryption for DMs could help to address privacy and security concerns. Encrypted DMs would make it much more difficult for hackers, governments, or even Twitter itself to access the content of users’ messages.

The addition of call and encrypted DM features to Twitter could also have a significant impact on other social media platforms. For example, if users begin to use Twitter for voice and video calls, it could reduce the popularity of other apps such as Skype or Zoom.
The introduction of end-to-end encryption for DMs on Twitter could lead to increased pressure on other platforms to adopt similar measures to protect user privacy.
