Most People Get Sick After Travelling. Why Is It So?

  • Study says that various respiratory and other health issues occur after traveling.
  • Most people get sick after travelling when they return home but still don’t want to take precautions.
  • Health precautions can help solve this problem and vaccination is very important.

Are you experiencing a cold, flu, respiratory syncytial virus, or coronavirus and such symptoms of sickness after a vacation or business trip? You may feel that it is just happening to you, but we can assure you that you are not alone.

There’s a thing that we have always heard that sometimes germs and viruses even help build immunity and isolation and social distancing can lead to a weak immune system as our body doesn’t discover harmful organisms and doesn’t learn to fight them.

It was noted that in 2020 and 2021 flu and cold were unusually low which later came roaring back in 2022 after people started traveling. One reason behind this was that we got exposed to people and germs.

There has also been increasing in stomach bugs according to data and 225 norovirus outbreaks have been reported in the U.S. from 1st August 2022 to 8th January 2023 there has been a 30% increase in the cases compared to the previous year during the same period.

It is undeniable that travel has the chance to be sick yet health professionals insist that immunity-boosting through travel is still undervalued.

Adventures are good but next time you head on an adventure you should take some steps in advance to keep yourself away from the risk of sickness.

It was found in research funded by Boeing researchers that people are likely to catch the virus when getting up for a bathroom or when they sit in the aisle seat. This was because people sitting at a window are less likely to get up from their seats to use the washroom.

There are certain ways to avoid feeling sick after your journey. If you follow these simple steps you will not face health problems and can enjoy traveling better.

Wearing masks in crowded places:

Once again mask have become optional and not mandatory like corona days. But you can reduce your risk of infection by wearing one. It is advisable to wear N95 for maximum protection as it has maximum efficiency as much as 90.5 percent.

Do not avoid vaccination:

Many people tend to avoid vaccination and get affected by the symptoms. The study says that the rate of flu in people has reduced compared to the numbers before 2020 and 2021. There are different viral infection in different parts of the world. Hence vaccination can give you some protection at least during the travel.

Avoid Unnecessary Touching:

Sometimes people forget that they shouldn’t touch their mouth, eyes, or nose. According to a study, people often do it almost 23 times an hour. This has to be taken care of especially when using public restrooms and avoiding touching your mouth eyes or nose until you clean or sanitize your hands.
