  • A 36-year-old man was saved from serious issues that could lead to heart stroke as Apple Watch alerted the user about his heart condition in time.
  • He immediately sought help by dialing the 111-emergency helpline.
  • He is now on treatment and is being cured with some other lifestyle changes.

Adam Croft an Apple Watch user felt dizzy before going to sleep and it was reported by BBC News that he was warned by the watch that he had a heart condition before going to sleep. The alerts came on his watch which saw later in the morning.

It was only after that night that he noticed the alerts from last month on his Apple Watch through the night about his heart and atrial fibrillation or arrhythmia that can cause quivering or irregular heartbeat.

He then called helpline 111 for advice related to the alerts. He told BBC News about the call to the emergency helpline which confirmed that he should get to an emergency room within an hour.

After being on electrocardiograms doctors confirmed that he had AFib as per the heart’s electrical activity. He further appealed to people that it is advisable that people track their health alerts and take such symptoms seriously.

Symptoms like quivering heartbeat, fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, anxiety, weakness, faintness and sweating are some of the main symptoms of AFib which is a common heart condition in almost 2.7 million Americans nowadays.

There are even conditions of patients having no symptoms and the health issue can only be detected by physical examination as per the American Heart Association.

Adam 36, also said that his watch alerted him the night before and he woke up from the couch feeling dizzy. He went to get water and felt the world closing in.

He also confessed that he felt flutterings in his heart but didn’t think it to be serious. He also added that he would have ignored the condition if it wasn’t been alerted by the Apple Watch and would have thought that he is just sick.

He said: “It’s made me far more likely to avoid stressful situations, and made me more aware of what’s going on in my body. I’m much better at looking out for the signs now.”

AFib is a health condition which is found more in older people with high blood pressure or heart disease. This condition can be serious as it leads to blood clots, stroke, and heart failure in some cases as per AHA.

It was also observed that family history of AFib can also be the reason for person being diagnosed by it. Croft has been offered with procedure of restoring regular rhythm which shall happen in just few weeks. This process is called cardioversion.

He has also been offered blood thinner and doctors have also said he should reduce stress and must follow a routine of exercise and a healthy diet while the blood thinners will help with blood clots which can cause a stroke.
