Apex Legends’ 20th season, Breakout, arrived this week, bringing a new Legend Upgrade system, Ranked mode revamp, and a brand-new map called Thunderdome. But it’s the map that’s causing a stir, with some players comparing it to The Finals’ setting.

Similarities Spark Debate:

A Reddit thread by “xenn64” ignited the discussion, suggesting Thunderdome heavily borrows from The Finals. Jokes flew about “getting that cash” and the resemblance of the giant statues. Others like AyS_tM mistook it for a new Finals map initially.

Is it Inspiration or Coincidence?

Not everyone’s convinced. Many point out the shared “lethal gameshow” theme, predating The Finals in games like Siege. Others, like ItsHen, highlight Apex’s existing lore, with Thunderdome being a fighting arena for years.

Similarities in the Genre:

Both games feature 3-player squads, and while Apex focuses on Battle Royale, its Mixtape modes offer similar styles.

Verdict: Does it Matter?

Hitroll might have summed it best: “Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe they took inspiration. It doesn’t matter that much.” Games naturally influence each other, and these similarities are loose.

Beyond the Debate:

While comparisons are inevitable, the focus should be on enjoying the games themselves. There’s room for both shooters, and fans can explore both or discover new favorites.
