Patrick Ewing is replaced as head coach at Georgetown by Ed Cooley

After leading the Friars to seven NCAA Tournament appearances since the 2011–12 season, Cooley was named the new head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas on Monday.

Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia has announced the hiring of Ed Cooley as the next leader of the men's basketball program.

In the new position, Cooley will be tasked with rescuing a program that was once proud of but is now struggling.

The Hoyas finished 75-109 during the previous six seasons with Patrick Ewing as their premier player, only making the tournament once.

After Villanova easily defeated Georgetown in the opening round of the Big East Tournament, Ewing was let go.

His immediate goals include getting to work on the court and building relationships with people in and around the District.

"I did not take this opportunity with Georgetown lightly, and I carefully thought it over with my wife and family," Cooley stated.
