Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes had bought a one-way ticket to Mexico after she was pleaded guilty to fraud. What was her plan?

Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes tried to flee the United States shortly after pleading guilty to fraud charges last year, prosecutors have claimed.

Holmes companion, William Evans, left on that trip and did not return for six weeks, the documents said.

Holmes was sentenced to 11 years in prison in November 2021 and is currently appealing her sentence.

Balwani, 57, is scheduled to be sentenced on December 7 after pleading guilty in July to 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy.

Prosecutors also allege that, based on information Holmes gave to her probation office, Holmes lives on an estate where “monthly expenses exceed $13,000.

Holmes has since apologised for the "failure" in her business, saying she was "very hurt by what people did, because I failed them".

In 2003, Holmes founded Real-Time Cures, a company in Palo Alto, California, to "democratize healthcare".
