Sources claim that Kemp had stuff taken from his car, tracked his iPhone, and was shot at when he approached the vehicle. He fired back to protect himself.

Shots were fired into the parking lot from a passing car on the northeast side of the mall, near the Courtesy Tire store.

Police said a gun was found and an investigation is ongoing. No injuries were reported as one of the automobiles drove away.

According to Pierce County's web records, Kemp, 53, was arrested at 5:58 p.m. local time, or nearly four hours after the incident on suspicion of felony drive-by shooting.

Kemp, a six-time NBA All-Star, played for the Seattle SuperSonics for eight of his fourteen NBA seasons after being selected by them 17th overall in the 1989 draught.

Kemp played in 625 games with Seattle between 1989 and 1997, contributing to the Sonics' 1996 NBA Finals appearance.

Kemp was arrested in 2005 in Shoreline for a drug possession investigation and again in Texas in 2006 for a different drug investigation.

Kemp has pursued a number of regional business options since leaving the NBA, relying on his time with the Sonics.

Oskar's Kitchen, a sports pub in Lower Queen Anne that closed its doors in 2015, was also owned by Kemp.

Kemp participated in the effort to bring an NBA team back to Seattle in 2022, telling The Athletic that he wouldn't give up until the city got "the true Sonics back."
