Metropolis, Series Cancelled Amid Writers Strike and Rising Costs.

'Metropolis' TV series based on Fritz Lang's classic 1927 sci-fi film, has been permanently cancelled.

The high-profile UCP series for Apple TV+ had been in the works for years under the direction of Sam Esmail, creator of "Mr. Robot."

The project had been prepping in Australia and was set to begin production in the summer.

However due to the writers strike scripts were not completed causing delays in setting budgets and other key pre-production elements.

The writers strike and the potential for a SAG-AFTRA strike added to the rising costs and risks associated with pushing the start of production.

The decision to cancel the series was made by UCP, in light of the money already spent and the uncertainty surrounding the strike.

The crew, which had been partially cast, was notified of the cancellation.

The cancellation of 'Metropolis' comes as a blow to the local economy, as it was projected to inject $310 million into the region.
