Trains Accident In Greece

According to a Greek Fire Service officer, the collision occurred shortly before midnight near Tempe Valley in northern Greece.

The train was traveling along a track connecting two famous tourist destinations, Athens and Thessaloniki, about 255 miles north of Athens.

The area where the passenger train derailed received at least 150 firefighters as well as additional 40 emergency vehicles.

That was turmoil for 10, 15 seconds. Tumbling over, fires, cables hanging, damaged windows, people shouting, people trapped.

In their attempts to flee, many have reportedly had to crawl through windows and across shattered glass.

One unsteady traveler who talked to Skai television claimed that "the windows abruptly erupted" and that "people were yelling and were scared."

Thankfully, they were able to rapidly unlock the doors and flee. Some were unable to escape from other wagons, and one caught fire.

That was a violent collision," the regional governor of the Thessaly area, Kostas Agorastos, told state-run television.

According to him, the first four cars of the passenger train derailed, and the first two coaches caught fire and were nearly destroyed.
