Beard was taken into custody on suspicion of a felony offence of domestic violence assault involving suffocation or strangling.

Later, Trew claimed Beard acted in self-defense and she vowed to never support his prosecution.

In the affidavit supporting Beard's arrest, Trew said that Beard choked her from behind and she was unable to breathe for a few seconds.

The affidavit mentioned bite marks on Trew arm and abrasions on her face and thigh as outward signs of an encounter.
