TORONTO — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie, have announced their separation after 18 years of marriage.
In statements shared on Instagram, the couple revealed that the decision came after numerous meaningful and difficult conversations. They have already signed a legal separation agreement, according to the prime minister’s office.
In their joint statement on Instagram, they affirmed their enduring love and respect for each other and the family they have built together. Despite the separation, they intend to remain a close-knit family, prioritizing the well-being of their children.
Trudeau, the 51-year-old son of one of Canada’s renowned politicians, took office in 2015. His wife, Sophie Trudeau, a former model and TV host, added a touch of star power to the prime minister’s office. The couple, who tied the knot in 2005, were featured in Vogue magazine.

The announcement of the couple’s separation comes after Trudeau posted a heartwarming picture on their anniversary, reaffirming their journey together as an adventure filled with love.
