In a surprising turn of events, the mayor of the City of South Fulton in Georgia found himself facing serious charges of burglary and criminal trespassing. Khalid Kamau, the mayor in question, was recently arrested, leading to his temporary replacement by a council member who was involved in a lawsuit against him earlier this year.
Following the charges of criminal trespassing and first-degree burglary, Khalid Kamau was released on the same day after posting $11,000 in surety bonds.
When approached for more information regarding the incident, the city’s public affairs director declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation. However, Jacqueline Howell, the interim director of public affairs for the City of South Fulton, made a statement emphasizing the city’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring equal treatment for all individuals, regardless of their positions.
Kamau took to Facebook to assure his supporters that he was “good” and “free,” expressing his belief that God was still using him and urging them to stay tuned.

In the meantime, councilwoman Natasha Williams-Brown has been appointed as mayor pro tem, stepping into Kamau’s shoes while he is temporarily absent. Williams-Brown, who was among the council members who filed suit against Kamau earlier this year, stated that the city’s operations would continue as usual during her tenure as acting mayor.
The allegations against Kamau include the willful disclosure of confidential information for personal gain and the recording of confidential executive sessions, as reported by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
This incident is the latest in a series of conflicts between Kamau and the city council, dating back over a year. In June 2022, the council requested an investigation by the district attorney’s office into Kamau’s use of a city-issued credit card, which was discovered during an audit. Subsequently, Kamau called upon the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to investigate the city council for corruption the following month, according to WXIA.
