New Zealand to Ban TikTok from all the Parliament Devices

After, the “Biden – Harris administration” revealed new – guidelines for the ban of TikTok in the U.S. Now, New Zealand said that it will also ban TikTok on all the devices that are linked to the parliament over security fears. New Zealand government official said on Friday, they will limit the use of the TikTok on all the official government related devices. 

Why TiKTok is Getting Ban in New Zealand?

New Zealand government said, “There are concerns that the Chinese – video sharing app TikTok could be used by the communist party to access the location of users’ through ByteDance. ByteDance is a TikTok’s parent company. 

By rejecting all the spying allegations, TikTok said, “It believes that the recent bans in the countries and states are based on the fundamental misconceptions and driven by wider geopolitics”. TikTok further added, “It has spent more than $1.5 billion on security efforts”.

Statement Of Chief Executive – Parliamentary Service

In an email to Reuters, Chief Executive Rafael Gonzalez – Montero said, “The discussion was taken after advice from cybersecurity experts and discussions within government and with other countries”.

He further added, “Based on this information the service has determined that the risks are not acceptable in the current New Zealand parliamentary environment”.

“Special arrangements can be made for those who require the app to do their jobs”, he stated.

In Britain, the government banned the app on Thursday with immediate effect. 

In U.S., the Biden administration sets a deadline to remove the TikTok from all the official devices, within a 30 days, until the end of the March. On which the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, “The U.S. government is stretching the concept of security and encroaching on the rights of American to engage with the app. In US, even Missouri is Considering Bill to Ban TikTok on State-owned Devices.

Some of the legislators are against the ban of TikTok and want a dialogue to continue for better solutions.
