A Phoenix man has been charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly sending a threatening email to Maricopa County Supervisor Bill Gates. The Arizona Attorney General’s Office released a statement on Tuesday, revealing that Ryan Stuart Hadland, aged 44, could potentially face jail time if found guilty.

The charging document, filed on June 1, states that Hadland has been charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor in connection with his threat to physically harm Gates on November 12, 2022. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to six months in jail and a fine of $2,500, as stated by the Attorney General’s Office.
Bill Gates, a Republican representative of a politically diverse area encompassing north-central Phoenix, Anthem, and New River, recently announced that he will not be seeking reelection in 2024.
In light of the 2020 and 2022 elections, Gates and other members of the Board of Supervisors faced baseless allegations of election fraud. Gates publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the harassment he endured during the elections.
