Ron DeSantis wins 2nd term as Florida governor defeating his rival Charlie Crist. He was first elected governor after receiving an endorsement from then-President Donald Trump.

He won with nearly a 20-point margin by carrying Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, longtime Democratic strongholds.

He gained lot of popularity during the start of the covid pandemic by opposing to continued lockdowns and to mask and vaccine mandates. He was also against any cultural divide, including gender, immigration,  education and others.

DeSantis has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration on immigration, accusing it of being incapable to stem the flow of migrants over the southern border.

Hurricane Ian during the elections gave DeSantis a platform to project a unifying tone during his final campaign, where he displayed his ability to set aside the culture warrior role and shifted into a role of crisis manager.

Mr. Ron DeSantis, 44 years old, held an huge fundraising advantage, with a political operation raising more than $200 million.

DeSantis, at his victory celebration, was serenaded with chants of “two more years,” by his supporters. encouraging the governor. His victory and the support he gets strengthens his position to run for president in 2024.
