Aides to U.S lawmakers from the January 6 committee have engaged in early talks to corporate with Brazilian lawmakers looking to investigate the storming of the capital Brasilia by protesters urging a army coup to defeat the president, according to two people familiar with the matter.

U.S. representative Bennie Thompson, who is the chairman of the recently dissolved house of representative committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. capitol, he is one of the lawmakers whose aides are involved in the conversation, according to the sources, who requested anonymity because the discussion is introductory.

What US representative said?

“I am really very proud of the January 6 nominated committee’s work and final report. If it serves as a model for similar investigations, I will help them out in every possible way,”

Bennie Thompson said in a written statement

Brazil’s senate president Rodrigo Pacheco has also deliberated the idea of an exchange with the top united states diplomat in Brasilia, said a third person familiar with the conversation.

The sources which are close to Pacheco said the US embassy’s charged affaires, Douglas Koneff, was interested in the idea of sharing, know from the investigation of then president Donald Trump’s supports who carried out the Jan 6 attack in a failed attempt to prevent congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory over Trump.

Pacheco’s office and US embassy in Brasilia did not answer to requests for comment.

The Jan 6 committee’s concluding report, released last month, said Donald Trump should face criminal charges for inciting the deadly riot.

The report listed 17 specific findings, discussed the legal implications of actions by the former president and his associates, and included criminal referrals of Trump and other individuals to the Justice department.
