Miami, FL – Cincinnati Reds starter Andrew Abbott continued his recent slump, surrendering six runs in five innings as the team fell 6-4 to the Miami Marlins.
Abbott’s woes began early, with two walks and two home runs, including a grand slam, in the first inning alone. Although he managed to settle down, the damage was already done. A second solo home run in the fifth inning marked a season-high three home runs allowed for the young lefty.
The loss marks the fourth subpar performance in Abbott’s last five starts. Since his promising early season, the once All-Star hopeful has seen his ERA skyrocket.

The Reds managed to mount a late comeback with a grand slam of their own, but it proved too little too late. The Marlins’ rookie pitcher, Valente Bellazo, delivered a strong performance, holding the Reds scoreless for 5 2/3 innings.
