Arsenal Face Long Odds in Premier League Title Race

Arsenal cling to a slim hope of winning the Premier League title on the final day of the 2023-24 season.

Despite being underdogs, Mikel Arteta’s young squad has made significant strides this year. However, their title challenge hinges on two results: a win against Everton and a Manchester City slip-up against West Ham. Statistics favor City heavily, with a win probability of 84.3% compared to Arsenal’s 15.6%.

A Premier League title would mark a historic return to glory for the Gunners, who last reigned supreme in the 2003-04 season. That iconic team, known as the “Invincibles,” achieved an unparalleled feat – going undefeated throughout the entire 38-game season.

While replicating that achievement seems unlikely, Arsenal have shown improvement over last season’s second-place finish (five points behind City). They currently sit on 86 points, just two shy of City’s leading tally.

Early in the season, Arsenal secured the FA Community Shield. This adds to their recent trophy haul, including the 2020 FA Cup and Community Shield. Manager Mikel Arteta has also contributed significantly to the club’s recent success, winning both the FA Cup (2020) and Community Shield (twice) during his playing career here.

As fans reminisce about the “Invincibles,” a look back reveals the legendary squad that achieved the unthinkable: Jens Lehmann, Lauren, Kolo Toure, Pascal Cygan, Sol Campbell, Martin Keown, Ashley Cole, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Gael Clichy, Robert Pires, Edu, Gilberto Silva, Patrick Vieira, Ray Parlour, Freddie Ljungberg, Jose Antonio Reyes, Dennis Bergkamp, Sylvain Wiltord, Thierry Henry, Nwankwo Kanu, and Jeremie Aliadiere.
