According to the autopsy report, a world champion sprinter and esteemed Olympic medalist, Tori Bowie died from childbirth complications.

The 32-year-old athlete was discovered lifeless in her Winter Garden, Florida home on May 2 when Orange County (Fla.) Sheriff deputies conducted a welfare check.

According to the report from the Orange County (Fla.) Medical Examiner Office, Bowie was estimated to be eight months pregnant and in the throes of labor at the time of her death in May. The autopsy confirmed the presence of a well-developed fetus.

Tragically, Bowie’s life was cut short by potential complications, including respiratory distress and eclampsia. Eclampsia is a condition characterized by seizures triggered by a sudden and severe rise in blood pressure during pregnancy, as stated by the renowned Cleveland Clinic.

Bowie’s illustrious career included remarkable achievements at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she secured three medals. Her accomplishments encompassed a silver medal in the 100-meter dash, a bronze in the 200-meter dash, and a gold as part of Team USA in the women’s 4×100 relay, where she ran the anchor leg. By the close of 2017, Bowie had ascended to the status of a world champion in both the women’s 100-meter sprint and the 4×100 relay.

The loss of Tori Bowie leaves an indelible void in the world of athletics, and her contributions will forever be remembered.
