A source confirmed on Monday that the team has signed the versatile belt to a 1 year, $9.3 million deal. 34 years old Belt played all 12 of his major league seasons with San Francisco, where he was part of championship Giant teams in 2012 and 2014 and an NL all Star in 2016.
He is returning after having knee injury throughout his career which limited him to just 78 games in 2022. Assuming this surgical rebuilt knee in order, Belt could be a solid depth signing for the Jays.
In 2009, Fifth round pick hit 2.13 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs over 78 games with the Giants in 2022. Belt had season ending knee surgery which was in third of his career, in early September.
Over 1,310 games in his career, the native of Nacogdoches, Texas has hit .261 with 175 home runs and 584 RBIs. Belt has a career on base percentage of .356. Belt was named as All-star in 2016.
Last season was the worst of Belt’s 12-year career. He slashed .213/.326/.350 with eight home runs in 78 games, including only .223/.319/.383 against righties. That is Belt hit a robust .274/.378/.597 with 29 homers inn only 97 games in 2021. Various injuries have limited Belt to only 598 of 870 possible regular season games since 2017, a not nice 69 percent.
