Freshman Phenom: Carlton Carrington Leads Pittsburgh to Victory with 19 Points

In a dazzling performance, freshman Carlton Carrington orchestrated Pittsburgh’s triumph over Florida Gulf Coast with 19 points and seven assists, securing an 86-74 victory on Monday night.

Carrington, showcasing prowess, netted 5 of 9 shots, including two 3-pointers, and flawlessly executed all seven free throws for Pittsburgh (3-0). Complementing this stellar display, Blake Hinson contributed 18 points and five rebounds, extending the Panthers’ home-winning streak to nine games. Ishmael Leggett showcased versatility, accumulating 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Off the bench, freshman Jaland Lowe added 12 points, including two successful 3-pointers.

Facing off against Florida Gulf Coast (1-2), Keeshawn Kellman led the charge with 14 points and six rebounds. Isaiah Thompson, a formidable reserve, added 13 points, sinking three 3-pointers.

As the first half concluded, Hinson and Lowe, each contributing 10 points, propelled Pittsburgh to a 45-35 lead. Notably, the Panthers solidified their advantage by converting 14 of 23 free throws, while the Eagles struggled at 2 for 4 from the line.

The spotlight continued to shine on Carrington, who etched his name in history as the first Division I player since 2001 to secure a triple-double in his debut. His remarkable performance of 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in the opener against North Carolina A&T underscores his exceptional talent.
