An Earthquake in Turkey killed more than 45,000 people and got stuck. The reports state that many are yet to be found and the Earthquake has also affected Turkey’s neighbor Syria. Out of 45,000, almost 5,800 are from Syria. 

One of the missing people Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu has been found after 12 days of being dead in the rubble. He was pulled out of the earthquake along with a few others and his identity was confirmed by his agent.

Christian lived in Hatay and was missing since the building he lived in collapsed in southern Turkey after being struck by an earthquake on Feb 6. He was 31 and scored a goal on 5th Feb 2023 i.e. a day before the earthquake. Atsu was married to author Mari-Claire Rupio and shared three children one daughter and two sons with her.

Murat Uzunmehmet former Chelsea and Newcastle winger representative confirmed his body and stated regarding the same on Saturday morning, 18th Feb. 

“Atsu’s lifeless body was found under the rubble. Currently, more items are still being taken out. His phone was also found,” he told reporters in Hatay, where Atsu had been playing for Hatayspor.

He was about to leave the country to visit his family but canceled after winning for his side against Kasimpasa staying back on Friday. 

Several mosques around the world performed funeral prayers for those who lost their lives in the earthquake many of them couldn’t even be buried because of the damage to their body after being trapped in the earthquake.
