New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is showing positive signs in his recovery from a torn ACL suffered last season.
Jones’ 2023 campaign got off to a rough start, with the Giants struggling at 1-4 before their Week 8 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. The game ended in a blowout loss for New York, with Jones sustaining a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee.
However, following extensive rehab, Jones feels optimistic about his progress.
“Feeling really good about the knee,” Jones told reporters. “Each week I keep getting better and taking steps forward. It’s a lot of the same drills, but I’m executing them with more confidence and feel sharper overall. Now I’m focusing on regaining explosiveness and improving my change of direction, even aiming to surpass my pre-injury level.”
A healthy Jones is crucial for the Giants’ divisional hopes, as backup Drew Lock isn’t considered a long-term solution.
Jones himself is aiming to replicate his 2022 performance, where he achieved career highs in wins (9), passing yards (3,205), rushing yards (708), and rushing touchdowns (7). Additionally, he threw a career-low 5 interceptions, boasting a league-leading interception percentage of 1.1%.

Prior to the injury, there was speculation about the Giants potentially moving on from Jones’ hefty contract next offseason, with an option to terminate his deal in 2025. This scenario seems likely unless Jones proves his worth by leading the team to victories and minimizing turnovers – a challenge that has plagued Giants quarterbacks for years.
While Jones hasn’t participated in 11-on-11 drills during minicamp yet, his positive recovery progress offers hope for the upcoming season.
