June 16, San Francisco – The Golden State Warriors have made a significant change in their front office by promoting former player Mike Dunleavy Jr. to the position of general manager. Dunleavy, 42, replaces Bob Myers, who had been with the NBA franchise for a considerable period. The announcement was made on Friday.
Dunleavy, who joined the Warriors’ front office in 2018, has been an integral part of the organization, serving as vice president of basketball operations for the past two seasons. With previous experience as an assistant general manager and scout, Dunleavy brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to his new role.
In a news release, Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob expressed confidence in Dunleavy, stating, “We think Mike is the perfect fit to lead our basketball operations department. He has a wealth of basketball knowledge, stemming from his family upbringing, a 15-year NBA playing career, and five seasons serving under Bob Myers in our front office. He’s young and energetic, has established numerous relationships around the league, and communicates well with players and coaches – all important traits in this business. Mike’s ready for this challenge and responsibility.”
The departure of Bob Myers, who announced his resignation on May 30, marked the end of an era for the Warriors. Myers, a highly regarded executive, played a pivotal role in the team’s success, helping build four championship-winning teams during his tenure. He first joined the Warriors in 2011 as assistant general manager and was subsequently promoted to the position of general manager in 2012.
With Mike Dunleavy Jr. assuming the role of general manager, the Golden State Warriors embark on a new chapter in their franchise’s history. The organization is confident in Dunleavy’s abilities and believes his basketball acumen, combined with his extensive experience, will contribute to the continued success of the team.
