Despite a valiant effort from rookie phenom Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever fell short against the Dallas Wings in their final game before the Olympic break. Clark’s dazzling performance included a record-breaking 19 assists and 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Wings’ offensive firepower.
The second half was a nail-biter, with both teams trading baskets. A crucial 3-pointer by Dallas’ Arike Ogunbowale sealed the win for the Wings, leaving the Fever with a 101-93 defeat.
While the loss stings, Clark’s individual brilliance provided a silver lining. Her record-setting 19 assists solidify her place as a rising star in the WNBA. She now stands just 13 assists shy of surpassing the league’s rookie record held by Ticha Penicheiro. Given Clark’s current average of 8.2 assists per game and the Fever’s potential playoff run, breaking the record seems almost inevitable.

Clark’s dominance extends beyond assists. Her scoring prowess was on display in the second quarter, where she single-handedly ignited a comeback effort with 10 consecutive points. This well-rounded performance further cements her status as a force to be reckoned with.
With the All-Star break upon her, Clark will showcase her talents in Phoenix. She’ll participate in the 3-point shooting contest and the All-Star game itself, marking the first time since 2014 that two rookies will grace the All-Star stage.
