Motorbike Accident Killed MMA Fighter Iuri Lapicus At 27

The Moldova native, Iuri Lapicus has died at the age of 27 after getting into a motorcycle accident in Italy, on March 20. 

Iuri Lapicus was a professional MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter. The Mixed Martial Arts community is mourning the loss of MMA fighter Iuri Lapicus. 

Motorcycle Crash In Italy

According to Milano Today, the 14-2 fighter Lapicus lost control of his motorcycle and got struck into another vehicle, in Northwest Milan on Friday. He was thrown several feet away from the motorcycle crash site. After the crashing of his motorcycle, Lapicus was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Milan, on March 17.  The athlete had remained in a coma and never regained his consciousness, until his passing, on Monday. 

After his passing, ONE Championship – the organization of which Lapicus competed underneath – shared a statement: “The ONE Championship team is heartbroken over the tragic passing of Iuri Lapicus”, reflecting on his legacy, on March 20. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time,” the organization said to the ESPN. 

Iuri Lapicus started learning Judo in Moldova when he was 9 – years – old and in the age of 15, he moved to Italy where he remained as a resident. In 2014, Lapicus made his debut as a professional mixed martial arts. He fought five times in the ONE Championship. On August 26, 2022, Lapicus’s fought his last fight which was against Zebaztian Kadestam. Overall, Lapicus went on to have a stellar record with 14 wins and two losses. 

Giorgo Petrosyan, an Italian fighter, shared a post on Instagram he said: “I want to remember you like this. R.I.P.”

Lapicus shared his last instagram post on January 16, he wrote, “Every moment is a fresh beginning”.
