San Francisco, CA – Blake Snell was dominant, striking out a career-high 15 batters as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-1 in the opener of a doubleheader.
The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner was nearly untouchable, retiring 15 of the 18 batters he faced. Snell’s performance marked the most strikeouts by a pitcher this season and the most in a six-inning or shorter game since at least 1901.
Patrick Bailey’s two-run double in the seventh inning proved to be the difference-maker. Matt Chapman and Michael Toglia each homered for their respective teams.

The Giants snapped a losing streak and improved their record to 50-55. Colorado, on the other hand, continues to struggle, with Ryan Feltner suffering his ninth loss of the season.
Both teams made roster moves, with the Rockies trading reliever Nick Mears and designating pitcher Ty Blach for assignment. The Giants designated Mike Baumann and recalled Spencer Bivens.
The two teams will continue their series with another game on Sunday.
