In her quest for a third French Open title in four years, Iga Swiatek, the world number one in tennis, began her title defense with a comfortable victory over Cristina Bucsa of Spain.
Swiatek experienced some early difficulties, losing two of her first three service games. Bucsa’s varied tactics initially caught Swiatek off guard, but the 21-year-old, a three-time Grand Slam champion, quickly adjusted and dominated the match.

After a shaky start, the top seed quickly regrouped and regained control as the first set reached its crucial stage, managing to break back and secure the victory.
She wasted no time in the second set, immediately securing a break with a powerful crosscourt forehand winner and never relinquished her dominance.
Swiatek, determined to add to her collection of French Open titles from 2020 and 2022, showcased her resilience by delivering a “bagel” in the second set, thoroughly outplaying her opponent.
“I just felt more tense, for sure,” Swiatek said. “But I managed to turn that around and not think about all the stuff that is usually bothering when you play your first match.”
